P.L. Johnson Dining Room is a lunch-time fixture in historic Bishop Hill. The restaurant occupies the old hardware store operated by proprietor P.L. Johnson. His trademark bicycle hangs from the ceiling.
The dining area of the former hardware store includes a charming assemblage of old wooden kitchen and dining room tables that lends a warm, welcoming feel to the place. Built in 1896, the building is typical of wood-framed general merchandise stores at the turn of the century. It’s easy, casual dining.
Swedish meatballs, a chicken salad fruit plate, cabbage rolls and great sandwiches are just a few of the more popular items on the menu. Homemade daily features – always uniquely delicious, fresh bread daily. P.L.’s homemade lingonberry tea, bread pudding and an assortment of pies topping the dessert list.
